Matthias Beckmann: In other worlds (excerpt)

Petra Lottje is also a friend of the other worlds. She starts from the visible, tangible world and lets herself be driven by her observations and thoughts. She deals with people, their relationships and conflicts, their actions and their inner motivations. She is part of life, is a part of the whole, does not want to keep her distance. She draws from what she has experienced and seen. She does not draw in front of the motif or from photographs. She draws from her imagination.
Petra Lottje’s line is impulsive, seeks its way, knots, bends, turns. This creates figures that can also dissolve and transform again. Mythological elements also play a role at times. The paper is not always treated with care. It has to be able to withstand something. Particularly in her large drawing installations, she often cuts into the sheets, transforms the flat paper into a relief, collages, overdraws again, makes the sheets of paper flutter.
And she can tell a story for every drawing. You just have to ask her.
The work was created especially for this exhibition in the last few days on site at on the partition wall in the centre of the room.
